Hi I wanted to tell you we are in the Panhandle of Fl and are pretty much in the middle of nowhere here.
    Not to much around here.

    I have yet another question.
My little girl came back from being fixed at the vet with ear mites and the stuff that the vet gave me to use 1 time a week wasn't working at all so I got some natural ear wash that was also suppose to get rid of ear mites .
We gave everyone a little just to be safe since I had some scratching going on .

Well our 8 month old boy had a major reaction . His third eye lids came out, throwing up, rapid breathing and lethargic. We wash him off, face, nose, ears, eyes and mouth as best we could to get any thing on him off. Then we gave him benedryl and we waited a little while to see if he got better. If he wouldn't of gotten better with in a little bit we would of took him in. But he started getting better after the benedryl so I stayed up all night with him and only went to bed after hubby got up and was able to watch over him then.
He by the next day he was even playing. Although he acted like he wanted to eat but wouldn't so I started force feeding him a little and water too. Well Monday he still had 1 of his third eye lids out and had just ate something on his own that Sunday night so I took him in to get checked out and showed her what we used.
She said he had a broken ear drum and that it hurt when he tried to eat so that probably why he wasn't eating well. And why his third eye was still out.

She gave him a shot of antiboitcs and had to give him a shot to calm him as she said she'd like to draw blood to make sure there wasn't anything else going on. So we did.

Anyway I am afraid of him getting ear mites since she had told me to let my little girl out with the rest of the guys after she came home with ear mites so she wouldn't pick at her incision anymore.
So I did so I exposed Everyone to them.
And now I have to keep her confinded and my others are out and Qtip freaks IF we put him behind a closed door for very long esp by his self so we let him out with everyone else .

I have been using a recipe mix of olive oil ( soaked garlic, strained out) , vit E, and a drop of GSE in it. Hubby's not convinced this is going to work so I wanted to see what you thought of this.
He wants me to get some meds that you use everyday but I would rather use this other if it will work.

I am hoping this will keep any at bay that my other guys might have cause I can't put anything in Qtips ears due to the ruptured ear drum.

Any ideas, advise etc will be Greatly appreciated.
Never a dull moment for to long around here.
    Thanks mel

    Hi Mel,
My favorite ear mite treatment is Acarexx which is topical ivermectin. http://www.acarexx.com/ . I don't know if that is what your boy reacted to or not. Acarexx is expensive but is usually just one treatment is needed.

A couple thoughts - ear mites come from fleas. Do you think there are any fleas on your kitties now? If there are the ear mites will just come back. If not, she probably got them before she was in your house. If there are flea and ear mite issues I would use Revolution (similar to Ivermectin) which kills the fleas and the mites.

Although both of these are western drugs I consider them fairly safe.

Ear mites can also often be drowned away. Usually folks will use mineral oil to do that. The olive oil will also work but is much more expensive and really I don't think it will make a great difference. When using oil you do have to apply it twice a day for usually two weeks so it is longer then the ivermectin or revolution route.

If you haven't checked out this link to find a holistic vet or vet acupuncturist in your area you could try it.
